The “Club de Baile” was a temporary cultural center that took over the Kassenhalle of Berliner Festspiele during the Performing Exiles Festival.
Run by artist Camila Malenchini in collaboration with Sharon Mercado Nogales and Inmensidades, the installation featured a dance floor, performances, live music, DJ sets, lectures, food workshops, and a lot of queer Latinx couples dancing. Wonderful hosts and teachers from the territory guiding us through salsa, bachata, merengue, cumbia, guaracha, salay, and reggaeton. From festivals of chamamé to sonideros, the “Club de Baile” embodied dance, music, and cultural events from different latitudes of South America, becoming a space of encounter, entertainment, knowledge, and more. Evenings were hosted by Papi Patacon and followed by different open classes, music, and performances.
“Club de Baile” also hosted “Sensación y sentimiento”, a graphic and textile craft market, inspired by the desire of bringing the energy of Mexican tianguis, Chilean pacas, the Argentinean salada, and the Alto market in Bolivia, among many other Latin American markets. We invited migrant projects by Latin American and Global South artists to continue pushing to the front circular economies across all latitudes.
This project will continue its iteration in 2026 and 2027 so stay tuned! INSTAGRAM
